Official Petition calling on Durham County Council to refuse to sell our Play/Recreation Area at The Wynd, Pelton.

Pelton Parish Council have set up an e-petition on the Durham County Council website calling on Durham County Council to refuse to sell our Play/Recreation Area at The Wynd, Pelton. In addition, we will be providing an opportunity for all residents to complete a paper petition requesting the same action which will be included on the front page of the Parish Newsletter. The Parish Newsletter will be delivered from mid-November 2022. There will be various locations provided to hand in the paper petition and they will be advertised in the newsletter.

This is further information about the petition- We petition the Council to stop discussions with a housing developer, Bellway Homes. Bellway Homes have been given permission by Durham County Council to carry out site investigations on land registered as an Asset of Community Value. The Play/Recreation Area has been registered as an Asset of Community Value due to the overwhelming evidence provided by the community to Durham County Council to prove its importance as a community space. As the Council has recognised the importance and value of this area to our Community by registering this asset on our behalf, we are calling on Durham County Council to end any discussions about selling this site.
