Some good news and a great idea from Thomas Jones to ask the Pelton Community Centre Trustees to suggest the request to the Parish Council.
This is the information put forward on behalf of the Parish Council to nominate Jade for a Little Super Star Award at the County Durham Youth Council Awards.
The Parish Council installed a Memorial at Holy Trinity Church, Pelton in October 2019 and in May 2020 we received funding to install three Memorial Benches to be sited near to the Memorial. We wanted a bespoke design so In June/July last year the Parish Council held a competition for all local children to design an art contribution using silhouette imagery on the theme of conflict and remembrance. The closing date was 31st August 2020. We received a lot of entries and six were shortlisted. Jade’s design was chosen as the winning entry with her artistic talent to create a contemplative design befitting the Memorial Reflection Area. She wowed the judges especially with her young age. Jade was on holiday when she created her winning entry and was worried she may miss the deadline so her mam took a picture of it and sent it through by email. So pleased that Jade had the dedication to work on the winning creation whilst on holiday.
The nomination was initially suggested by Thomas Jones, Youth Project Manager, Pelton Youth Project, Pelton Community Association to the Trustees of Pelton Community Centre. Thomas was impressed with the benches as a resident of the Parish and with his experience of youth projects he contacted the Parish Council advising -“I feel we should nominate Jade for her work with the Parish Council and her designs for the benches in the cemetery. I was up there the other day and they are amazing.” The Parish Councillors unanimously agreed to proudly nominate Jade for this award.
