Design Plans Unveiled- Watch this space for further updates
Pelton Parish Council have today unveiled the new play equipment that will be installed at Thornton Pocket Play Area this summer. Local school children Tom and George Stewart who sent a letter to the Parish Council asking them to help the local children by installing a new play area in Thornton Lea are happy to see the designs for the new play equipment which were unveiled today. Pelton Parish Council would like to thank Taylor Wimpey and the Land Registry who worked hard to ensure the land transfer was carried out so quickly- without their help Tom, George and the other local children would be without a local play park throughout the whole of the summer holidays. Thank you!
Residents were informed in January that the play equipment at Thornton Lea was going to be removed by the land owner, due to safety concerns. As a result of the outcry from the local Community, Cllr Danny Wood prepared a proposal that was presented to the Parish Council. As a result of this, Pelton Parish Council agreed to match fund a capital contribution from Cllr Wood’s Neighbourhood Budget and to submit an application for Pocket Park Funding led by Cllr Wood & Cllr Simon Mulligan. In preparing the application a quotation for new equipment was sought which indicated higher costs than anticipated, this was met by further contributions from our other two County Councillors; Alison Batey & Colin Carr. As a Parish Council we are thrilled that our Pocket Park funding application was successful and we’re working hard to get the new equipment installed as soon as possible. The land owner, Taylor Wimpey have agreed to gift the land to the Parish Council – and in support of the project they’ve agreed to waive their legal fees. Once this and a formal tendering process is completed the works will be instructed and the new equipment installed. Pelton Parish Council has appointed an Advisory Committee for the project – this is open to all Parish Councillors and all residents to discuss and oversee the project. If you would be
interested in attending please contact our Clerk.
