Congratulations to our residents who entered the Pelton Parish In Bloom Competition 2025. Their achievements were celebrated last night at a presentation held before the Parish Council meeting.
The following entrants received a certificate presented to them by the Chair of the Parish Council, Cllr Danny Wood.
Pelton Grange Nursing Home- Winner of the School, Community Building or Business Frontage category with an amazing score of 87 out of 100, awarding them a Gold Award. Suzanne and Fiona attended and gave us the background to the theme of their entry-
“When we applied to enter the competition, we held a resident meeting. We formed our own garden committee.
The “boss” as we affectionately called him, John Millburn, came up with the theme for our garden entry.
The forgotten kingdom. We made a monumental ruin, using cardboard and paper mache. And paint and varnish. John kept asking if we had won the competition yet.
It was with deep sadness that John passed away just days before we learnt that we had won the gold award. His family were informed and were thrilled. A final tribute to John.
Pelton Grange would like to dedicate the award to the memory of Mr John Millburn. 1952-2025.
He will always be in our hearts.”
Julie and Billy Maclennan- Winners of the Garden/Yard Category and the Overall Winner of the Categories with a phenomenal score of 91.66 out of 100.
Newfield Communal Volunteer Group– this entry is the Winner of the Best Neighbourhood Area/Group Project with a great score of 74.67 out of 100, awarding them a Silver Award.
Ian Bell- This entry is the Runner Up of the Garden/Yard Category with a brilliant score of 84.33 out of 100, awarding a Silver Gilt Award. Ian’s partner Andrea accepted the certificate on behalf of Ian-
