Dear Resident.

Pelton Parish Council would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the Poppies Project 2024. On Saturday 26th October 2024 volunteers helped to attach the Poppies onto the lampposts where we have permission to install them from Durham County Council. We are unable to put them onto telegraph poles so there are some gaps along the main roads. The Poppies and the cable ties are reusable so we will be able to install them each year going forward.

Funding from Karbon Homes and the Neighbourhood Budgets of County Councillors Alison Batey, Paul Pringle & Danny Wood covered the cost of the Poppies bought direct from the Royal British Legion and the reusable cable ties.

Below is a thank you letter from the Royal British Legion for supporting them with the purchase of the Poppies and a picture of the volunteers who put up the Poppies.

We will be removing the Poppies on Saturday 16th November 2024 meeting at 10am in Pelton Community Centre. If you would like to help then please just pop along.

Thank you very much for your payment of £1160 for your recent Large Poppies order. We really appreciate your support for those who have served with His Majesty’s British Armed Forces.

Your support makes it possible for us to provide much-needed help and support to the many thousands of ex-Service men and women who call on us in their hour of need. Last year we spent £45.6m on services and support to improve the lives of the Armed Forces community in the UK and in 31 countries worldwide. We secured debt relief worth over a total of £10 million for the more than 2,000 people who used our specialist debt and money advice service, which was an increase of 15% on the previous year. Support like yours also helped us to care for older veterans in our Poppy Care Homes, and to support carers for people living with dementia through our Admiral Nurses scheme.
